UMD men’s hockey can’t keep up with Sun Devils offense in first ever matchup in Tempe

UMD men’s hockey took to the road to face #19 Arizona State on Friday, but ultimately fell 5-3.

The matchup between the Bulldogs and Sun Devils marked just the third meeting between the two programs, and the first in Arizona.

Arizona State got on the board first, to which UMD had no response until the start of the second period, when Dominic James scored just 52 seconds into the second period. Arizona State then scored three unanswered to put UMD in a 4-1 hole, but Max Plante and Dominic James scored to narrow the deficit to just 4-3.

The Bulldogs pulled their goalie in the final minute hoping to net the equalizer with an extra man on the ice, but ended up surrendering a fifth goal.

UMD and Arizona State drop the puck on Saturday at 6 p.m. from Mullett Arena.
