UMD men's hockey looking to upend a ranked team for second straight weekend

The University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) men’s hockey team is off visiting No. 18 Colorado College this weekend.

The Bulldogs are firing on all cylinders after sweeping then-number 10 St. Cloud State last weekend. If they can harness that momentum on the road, UMD could improve to 6-6 in NCHC play. However, as Associate Head Coach Adam Krause said, the most dangerous teams are confident teams or desperate teams. The entire Bulldogs squad is well aware of the 18th ranked Tigers’ four game losing skid.

“Much like any team in our conference, they’re going to play really hard,” said Joe Molenaar, a graduate student forward. “We know they’ve got a lot of skill, they’ve had some really good years the last couple. What we can do right now is just keep focusing on building our group. The way we play isn’t going to change much based on who we’re playing. We got to keep sticking to the stuff ‘Sandy’ [Head Coach Scott Sandelin] and the rest of the staff are preaching. You know, keep hoping that and trusting that is going to bring us the outcomes we want.”

Friday night’s game features a 9 p.m. puck drop in Colorado Springs. Their series finale is Saturday at 7 p.m.
