UMD men’s hockey searching for redemption in road trip to St. Cloud
The University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) men’s hockey team will look to rebound from a tough conference sweep against the University of North Dakota last weekend, paying number 19 St. Cloud State University (SCSU) a visit this weekend.
The two programs have met 29 times since graduate captain Luke Loheit joined the Bulldogs in the 2019-2020 season, which equates to nearly a full season. That familiarity allowed UMD, unranked, to sweep the number one ranked Huskies mid-last season.
They could really use that rally now as UMD sits 0-and-2 in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference.
“It’s always tight when we play them, it’s always tight checking. Not a lot of room even though we go and play them on the Olympic ice, it’s still pretty tight and physical,” Loheit said. “They’re a little more skilled, but not saying that we can’t shut them down like we have in the past. We trust our skill, we trust our speed as well.”
“Good transition team, they’ll spread you out on the rink. Power plays always good, just stay out of the box. So nothing really changes, some of the faces, but this will be our first time on the big sheet {this season},” UMD head coach Scott Sandelin said.
Puck drop is 7:30 p.m. Friday and 6 p.m. Saturday in St. Cloud.
Additionally the Bulldogs have launched their annual Movember fundraiser for men’s health. They’re growing mustaches and raising funds to help men with their physical and mental health. Their goal set for $5,000 dollars. To donate, Click here.
