UMD men’s hockey suffers shutout loss to No. 3 Denver in NCHC tournament opener
On Friday, the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) men’s hockey team fell 4-0 to the third ranked University of Denver in the first of a best-of-three series to open the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) tournament.
Denver’s McKade Webster scored to make it 1-0 after the first period. Then Jack Devine scored twice in the second period to give the Pioneers the 3-0 lead. Connor Caponi added an empty netter late in the fourth handing Denver the 4-0 shutout victory.
In net, UMD’s Matthew Thiessen tallied 20 saves, while Denver’s Matt Davis recorded 17 saves. For the full box score, Click here.
Game two Saturday is now a must-win game for the Bulldogs. They will face-off against Denver at 7:07 p.m. at Denver’s Magness Arena. If UMD wins that will force a game three on Sunday. For the NCHC tournament bracket, Click here.
