The UMD Men’s Hockey team began their season with a 2-2 tie with Michigan Tech on Saturday Night.
The 17th ranked Bulldogs struck first thanks to Luke Loheit’s goal just six minutes in.
The Bulldogs played physical and aggressive defense, and were also in control of the puck much throughout the first period, but Michigan Tech wouldn’t take no for an answer.
The Huskies scored just minutes into the second period, knotting the game up at 1-1.
It took until the 3rd period for both teams to score again, going into overtime at 2-2.
The Bulldogs had a clutch powerplay kill at the end of overtime, concluding the game with an official tie. However, the two teams did participate in an exhibition shootout, where UMD claimed victory.
UMD is back in action against Northern Michigan next Saturday.
