UMD men’s hockey upended by #5 Denver on home ice
The UMD men’s hockey team fell to #5 Denver on Saturday night 5-2 in a night that many Bulldogs fans would like to forget.
For starters, the game was off to a less than ideal start for UMD, as Zeev Buium found the back of the net within just thirty seconds of the opening puck drop.
Five minutes later, Connor Caponi capitalized and scored a goal to make it 2-0. Moments later, Jared Wright blew past all of the UMD defenders to net a third goal.
At that point, goaltender Zach Stejskal was pulled in favor of Matthew Thiessen, and Thiessen impressed for the rest of the period, but later fell back down to earth to allow two more goals.
Along the way, however, Ben Steeves scored to open up the second period and cut the deficit to 3-1 while Matthew Perkins scored to cut it down to 3-2.
UMD is back in action next Friday against North Dakota.
