UMD men’s hockey uses last second goal to push past #17 St. Cloud State
On Friday night, the UMD men’s hockey team took #17 St. Cloud State to overtime on home ice and beat them, 6-5 with just seconds remaining in the overtime session.
It was Ben Steeves who found the back of the net to give the Bulldogs the lead, which was much needed just days before the NCHC playoffs begin.
In the beginning of the game, both teams traded goals, with UMD coming back from down 1-0 with a goal from Kyle Bettens to make it 1-1.
After a 2-1 deficit, UMD would respond yet again, this time with Ben Steeves finding twine, his first of the night.
The Bullodgs would trail both 4-2 and 5-3, but would fight back each time, with goals from Aaron Pionk, Owen Gallatin, and Luke Loheit to tie things up at 5-5.
Steeves found the back of the net a second time to win the game for the Bulldogs.
UMD has a chance to finish the season on a high note on Saturday against St. Cloud State at 7:07 p.m.
