The University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) men’s hockey team had a great week, beating No. 10 Arizona State University 3-2 Friday, then tying the Sun Devils 3-3 Saturday at AMSOIL Arena. That effort was thanks in part to Hermantown’s own Ty Hanson.

His three point and four block performance over the weekend earned him National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) Rookie of the Week honors. Hanson scored one goal while adding two assists, and played an integral role in the Bulldogs penalty kills, holding the Sun Devils to just two goals on eight attempts over the two games.

UMD (11-15-2) is off to No. 17 North Dakota this weekend taking on the Fighting Hawks Friday at 7:07 p.m. and Saturday at 6:07 p.m.
