Trekking from St. Cloud to Indianapolis over the past two weeks, the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) volleyball team secured two tournament sweeps to now sit 8-0.
This weekend they will carry that undefeated record, and No. 14 ranking in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Poll, into their Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) opener on Friday.
“Sometimes it takes you losing some matches to realize here’s where we were exposed, here’s what we’re not as good at as we thought we were, here’s what we know teams in our league will take advantage of. We just created that list while still finding ways to win matches against good teams,” head coach Jim Boos said at practice on Tuesday.
“It shows us really where we can be at and how we can compete,” Sydney Lanoue said. “Big confidence booster and hopefully we can continue this undefeated streak.”
Part of the Bulldogs success can be attributed to the versatility of graduate student and captain Lanoue, who has been moving from libero to outside hitter early this season.
No. 14 UMD first serves up NSIC play at Minot State University Friday night at 7 p.m., then on Saturday they visit the University of Mary in Bismarck at 2 p.m. For their full schedule, Click Here.
