UMD women move up to No. 6 in USCHO poll, Jobst-Smith & Soderberg earn WCHA honors
Sweeping the then-number two ranked Wisconsin Badgers for the first time since 2012 the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) women’s hockey team leaped up two spots up to number six in the latest USCHO poll.
The Badgers fell all the way to No. 8 after the Bulldogs earned 3-1 then 1-0 road wins this weekend.
Making 72 saves on 73 shots faced Emma Soderberg earned her third Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) Goaltender of the Week honor this season. Recording the 16th shutout of her career Sunday the graduate student is now tied for third all-time among UMD netminders with fellow Sweden Olympian Kim Martin.
Helping hold the nation’s highest scoring team to a single goal, Nina Jobst-Smith earned her second WCHA Defender of the Week title this season.
UMD, now 15-6-1, returns home this weekend to host Bemidji State University Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 3 p.m.
