UMD women’s hockey makes NCAA for fourth straight year, set to play Connecticut
For the fourth straight year, the UMD women’s hockey team is will be in the NCAA tournament, as this morning it was revealed that they’d be the 6 seed, playing the University of Connecticut Huskies, who finished the season 10th in the country.
The matchup will be the 10th time ever these two teams have met, with UMD never having lost against the Huskies.
The winner of UConn and UMD goes on to face Ohio State, who beat UMD 5 times this year, including just this Friday. However, for the ‘Dogs, they’re living one day at a time.
“They might be a little bit nervous, it’s their first NCAA tournament of their program. so using that experience that we have in this room and just getting after them right away is going to be huge,” shared Mannon McMahon, a graduate forward.
“We play a really team up game. We scored some big goals lately. Our goaltending has been huge for us all year, so I think we’ve just really come together and kind of found our game,” said Reece Hunt, a graduate forward.
“It’s just the world we live in,” said Maura Crowell. “We play in the toughest conference in the country and we face the Wisconsins, Ohio States, Minnesotas it seems like every other week. So if we were scared, we wouldn’t be sitting here today.”
UMD heads to Columbus to take on the Huskies on Thursday, and if they were to win, they’d face Ohio State for the 6th time, that game on Saturday.
