UMD Women’s hockey powers past Mankato with two late goals
The UMD Women’s hockey team hit the road for the first time in the 2023-2024 to face Mankato, and after two late goals, beat the Mavericks 3-1.
In the first period, Mary Kate O’Brien opened the scoring when she poked the puck in from her positioning in front of the net.
The Bulldogs would enjoy their 1-0 lead until the end of the period, but Mankato’s Jamie Nelson sent the equalizer to the back of the net just four minutes into the second period.
There would be no scoring until Reece Hunt scored with just ten minutes left to put the Bulldogs on top, 2-1. Then, seven minutes later, Hanna Baskin gave UMD extra insurance and increase their lead to 3-1.
The Bulldogs will have the opportunity to sweep the weekend when they face off against Mankato at 2:01 p.m. on Saturday.
