UMD women's hockey's Jobst-Smith and Karlsson make 2025 IIHF World Championship teams

Two current UMD women’s hockey defensemen will be heading to the 2025 IIHF Women’s World Championship in April on their respective national teams.

Fifth-year Nina Jobst-Smith will be hitting the ice for Germany for the fifth consecutive year, while sophomore Ida Karlsson will be representing Sweden for the second year in a row.

Jobst-Smith skated in 37 games for the Bulldogs this past season, tallying 3 goals and 15 assists. The team captain was named to the 2024-25 All WCHA Second Team, and helped Germany qualify for the 2026 Winter Olympics in February.

Karlsson played in 36 games for the Bulldogs this past season, tallying three goals and four assists. Karlsson also helped Sweden clinch their spot in the 2026 Winter Olympics in February.

The 2025 IIHF Women’s World Championship takes place from April 9th through April 20th in Ceske Budějovice, Czechia. Click here to view the full tournament schedule.
