UMD women's soccer suffers season opening loss to Northern Michigan
On Thursday the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) women’s soccer team suffered a 6-1 loss to Northern Michigan University (NMU) at Malosky Stadium. The loss marked both UMD’s 2024 season and home opener.
The Wildcats scored three goals in the first 15 minutes of the game to come out to an early lead. By halftime UMD was in a 5-0 hole. The Bulldogs held NMU to just one goal in the second half. Then, in the 79th minute Maria Zanotti scored for UMD to escape the shutout.
UMD keeper Kaycee Chavez made eight saves, while the Wildcats’ Jillian Thompson made three.
UMD (0-1) will look to rebound this Saturday, September 7 hosting Michigan Tech. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Malosky Stadium.
