UMD's Charlie Katona named to Bevo Francis Award watchlist

Charlie Katona, a fifth year for the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) men’s basketball team, has landed on the Top 100 Watchlist for the Bevo Francis Award.

It’s given to the player with the strongest season throughout all of Small College Basketball, accounting for statistic, individual and team achievements, and personal character. Former Bulldog guard Drew Blair was up for the award last season.

Katona, the reigning Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Defensive Player of the Year, currently leads the team in total points (245), total rebounds (103), and steals (23) in 15 games this season.

Small College Basketball will reduce the watchlist to the Top 50 on February 15, and the Top 25 on March 15. Finalists and the overall winner will be announced in early April.
