UMD women’s hockey’s Clara Van Wieren has been nominated for the hockey humanitarian award, which is awarded to a student-athlete who makes significant contributions to their team and community.

Van Wieren is in pursuit of a masters degree while playing for the Bulldogs, all while holding leadership positions as both the President of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee and as Co-President of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council.

Van Wieren led SAAC to partner with Food Forward, a non-profit that works with 36 local families to create meals weekly for low income families, as well as buying gifts for families and children who otherwise may have needed them in the middle of the holiday season.

The award is celebrating its 30th anniversary season.
