UMD’s Gabbie Hughes named top 5 Hockey Humanitarian finalist

University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) women’s hockey captain Gabbie Hughes is now a two-time Hockey Humanitarian Award finalist.
Thursday she was named a top five finalist for the 28th annual award for the second season in a row.
Awarded to college hockey’s “finest citizen” Hughes is being recognized for her work with Sophie’s Squad.
The graduate student is a co-founder of the non-profit organization dedicated to supporting mental health awareness for athletes.
As of February 10, 2023, $277,696 has been raised for the organization
The award winner will be announced April 7 as part of the NCAA Men’s Frozen Four.
