UMD’s Gascon, Kraemer earn weekly WCHA awards after weekend sweep

After a weekend sweep of top ranked Ohio State, two UMD women’s hockey players were recognized by the WCHA for their efforts, those being goaltender Ève Gascon, who won WCHA Goaltender of the Week and center Caitlin Kraemer, taking home WCHA Rookie of the Week.

Gascon stood on her head all weekend, facing 79 shots on the weekend and responding with 75 saves. A 39 save effort on Saturday was the most saves in a single game in Gascon’s career.

Kraemer was absolutely stellar this weekend, scoring two goals in the third period of Sundays game to tie and win the game for the Bulldogs. Kraemer tallied three points on Sunday, her first coming on UMD’s first goal of the game.

The Bulldogs return home to take on Syracuse in a non-conference matchup, starting on Saturday at AMSOIL Arena. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
