UMD men’s hockey’s Jayson Shaugabay was promised to be a phenom and in his first weekend as a Bulldog, the expectation may be spot on.

Shaugabay was tabbed as the NCHC Rookie of the Week after a stellar performance in the season opening loss to Bemidji State on Saturday. Shaugabay scored two goals and even added an assist against the Beavers, which counted for the most by a Bulldog freshman in a debut game in at least 30+ years.

The night included his first goal, first assist, first power play goal, first two-goal game, first multiple-point game and first three-point game.
