UMD’s MacLeod, Gascon named finalists for WCHA Goalie & Rookie of the Year
Last Friday and Saturday University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) women’s hockey goaltenders Hailey MacLeod and Ève Gascon each picked up a shutout win to sweep St. Cloud State University in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) quarterfinals.
On Monday the two Bulldogs were named finalists for top conference honors. MacLeod is a top three finalist for WCHA Goalie of the Year, while Gascon is one of three up for WCHA Rookie of the Year.
MacLeod, a sophomore, leads the NCAA in saves percentage with a .960, and ranks third in goals against average with a 1.05.
Gascon set a UMD rookie record with six shutouts this season. She currently is ranked fourth in the NCAA with a .951 saves percentage, and sits 11th with a 1.51 GAA.
Award winners will be announced Wednesday, March 6.
Next, the No. 8 Bulldogs will face the No. 1 Ohio State University in the WCHA Final Face-Off semifinals Friday at 1:03 p.m. at Ridder Arena in Minneapolis.
