UMD’s Spicer academically ineligible for rest of 2023-2024 season
December 9th was the last time the UMD men’s hockey team hit the ice, and they were beginning to turn things around with two wins, a tie and a loss to close out the first half of their season.
Things were looking up for the Bulldogs but ahead of their return to the ice this Thursday, it was revealed by head coach Scott Sandelin that Center Cole Spicer would be out for the second half of the season due to academic ineligibility.
“Just as a friend, I mean, I think it’s hard for us, obviously as a group to have a guy that we love and care about not around us,” said forward Luke Loheit, a captain for the Bulldogs. “At a time like this, hockey is a by-product, it’s not the focus. So, we’re just focusing on him and making sure that he’s in good spirits and all of us are there for him.”
The Bulldogs are back in action on Thursday in the Kwik Trip Holiday Classic against Northeastern.
