Up North: Adolfson & Peterson pack Clyde Iron Works for 3rd annual bean bag tournament
Adolfson & Peterson Construction’s 3rd annual charity bean bag tournament took place on Thursday, and the event was as popular as ever.
The event serves as a fundraiser for the Northern Lights Foundation, and one that participants look forward to all year.
“It’s a fun event,” said Ken Larson. “People get into the bean bags and they get pretty competitive here. So not only that but participating.”
While the event is for charity and for fun, it can get pretty intense too. Even to the point of not giving up.
“If at any point in time both teams agree it’s a lopsided match, you can go ahead and throw the towel in before you get 12 minutes done. There were a couple last year that probably should’ve thrown the towel.”
But throwing in the towel wasn’t an option for many, for one reason.
There’s some pretty competitive people that play a lot,” added Larson. “I think the people that won last year are here this year, and so it will be interesting to see who comes out as a winner this year.”
While 62 teams were in the tournament this year, the true winners of the event was the Northern Lights Foundation, which is an organization which provides grants to the families of children with life-threatening illnesses. Larson is just happy to contribute to those that need it.
“We started in 2006 so since then, we started raising money for families with a life-threatening illness. We have our information with social workers in the hospital and they kind of direct the families to us to make application online so in those years, because of fundraisers like Adolfson and Peterson’s, we’ve been able to give out about 250 grants to local families with a child with a life-threatening illness. It’s been great, it keeps growing each year we get more and more corporate support like this. It’s wonderful.”
