UWS baseball picks up win under the lights against Martin Luther
First pitch between the University of Wisconsin-Superior (UWS) baseball team and Martin Luther College was set at 7 p.m. Wednesday night, and the Yellowjackets would walk away the late night victors 5-2 at the NBC Spartan Sports Complex in Superior.
The first two innings went scoreless. Then in the third UWS was finally able to break through with Jonny Rhodes scoring to lead 1-0. The Yellowjackets went on to score two runs in the fifth and two in the eighth to lead 5-2. The Knights would get two on the board in the top of the ninth, but the Yellowjackets hung on to win 5-2.
Payton Steiner tallied one run, one hit and one RBI for UWS, while Trey Sybrant added two hits and two RBI. On the mound for the Yellowjackets, Ben Walle pitched five strikeouts in 9.0 innings. For the full box score, click here.
UWS earns their fourth straight win improving to 9-9 overall, and 4-0 in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play. The Yellowjackets and Knights rematch Thursday morning in a doubleheader, with first pitches set for 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. at the NBC Spartan Sports Complex.
