UWS men’s hockey claims WIAC regular season title with shootout win over UW-Stevens Point
UWS men’s hockey fell to UW-Stevens Point 3-1 on Friday, setting up a winner take all game on Saturday. On Saturday, the Yellowjackets got the last laugh, taking down the Pointers in a shootout, with a final score of 2-2.
The Pointers came out firing, jumping out to a 2-0 lead early on and putting the Yellowjackets in a hole.
However, once the second period started, the Yellowjackets erased the deficit, thanks to a Reed Stark goal just 39 seconds into the period and a goal from Kade Shea to even the score up at 2-2.
After a scoreless third period and overtime, the two teams went to a shootout. Yellowjackets’ Carson Riddle net the winner in the shootout, as UWS claimed the WIAC regular season title and will have home ice for the WIAC playoffs, which will take place on February 28th.
