UWS men’s, women’s basketball have split fates against Minnesota Morris
Saturday was a bittersweet day for the UWS basketball program, as the men’s team lost in a heartbreaker to Minnesota Morris, while the women’s team beat Minnesota Morris, 59-41.
On the men’s side, the Yellowjackets held a five point lead at the half, getting it done on both ends of the floor. However, in the second half, they were outscored by seven points, and eventually lost the game.
Josef Fahrenholtz was a big reason for the Yellowjackets success, as he tallied 22 points and 9 rebounds. The Yellowjackets leading scorer, J’Vaun Walker, finished the game with only nine points, but had a crucial bucket down the stretch to bring the Yellowjackets within one.
The Yellowjackets are back in action on December 13th against UW-Eau Claire.
On the women’s side, Elise Besonen was red hot, as the junior scored 24 points in 38 minutes for the Yellowjackets.
Charlotte Ferstl was the only other Yellowjacket to score in double figures, but it didn’t seem to matter, as the Yellowjackets cruised to an 18 point victory.
The game was also a back and forth battle on the defensive end, as the two teams tallied 29 steals in the game.
The Yellowjackets will look to extend their win streak against UW-Eau Claire on Wednesday.
