Both the University of Wisconsin-Superior (UWS) men’s and women’s basketball teams protected their perfect conference records on Wednesday by defeating Northland College in Superior.

First up, the UWS men beat Northland 76-58 to earn their third straight win. The Yellowjackets led 45-27 at halftime, but were matched 31-31 in the second half by the surging LumberJacks. UWS was led by Andrew Kunelius with 18 points, and Reid Johnson with 16 points. Northland’s Jahlani Thornton led the game with 20 points and 14 rebounds, while Damian Cejka and Ryan Ehlert each had 12 points.

UWS is now 6-8 overall, and 3-0 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC). They next visit Martin Luther Saturday, January 18 at 3pm. Northland (0-14) next visits Bethany Lutheran Saturday at 1pm.

The UWS women followed that with a dominant 89-33 win over the LumberJills, extending their win streak to four. The Yellowjackets led 44-15 at halftime, and outshot Northland 45-18 in the second half. UWS’ Elise Besonen led the game with 15 points, while Katie Dobson and Hailie Evans added 10 points each. Britta Josephson led Northland with 10 points.

The Yellowjackets improve to 7-7 overall and 3-0 in UMAC play. They next visit Martin Luther Saturday, January 18 at 4:45pm. Northland (0-10) next visits Bethany Lutheran Saturday at 2:45pm.
