UWS men’s & women’s soccer advance to UMAC championship games
On Wednesday the University of Wisconsin-Superior (UWS) men’s and women’s soccer teams earned Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) semifinal wins to advance to the championship games.
The top-seeded UWS men shutout No. 4 Northwestern 6-0 at Superior’s NBC Spartan Sports Complex. All six goals were scored by different players, coming from Freddy Watson and Karsten Kletti in the first half, then Josh Bellamy, Nicolai Stokker, Jake Kidd, and Phillip Eriksen in the second half.
UWS (16-3-2) now hosts No. 2 Bethany Lutheran in the UMAC championship game Saturday in Superior. Time is TBD.
Earlier in Superior, the top-seeded UWS women rallied from a one goal deficit in the second half scoring two to defeat No. 4 Crown College 2-1. UWS’ Allison Alessi scored the game-tying goal in the 77th minute, and seconds later Superior’s own Niya Wilson scored the game-winning goal.
UWS (15-5-1) now hosts No. 2 Northwestern in the UMAC championship game Saturday in Superior. Time is TBD.
