UWS softball claims UMAC title, ‘Jackets baseball falls in both games of UMAC championship
The University of Wisconsin-Superior sent both their softball and baseball teams to the UMAC championship games, and only the softball team came back as victors, beating Bethany-Lutheran 6-5, while the baseball team fell in both games of the conference championship, falling 9-7 and 8-6.
For the softball team, the Yellowjackets won in dramatic fashion, as MyKenzie Leccia hit a walkoff to clinch the UMAC title, as well as the tournament MVP.
The title marks now the 6th time that the Yellowjackets will appear in the NCAA tournament. The Yellowjackets find out their matchup on Monday at 10 a.m.
As for the Yellowjackets baseball team, a 3-0 lead in game one turned into a 9-7 loss, however, Tanner Voight was a bright spot, tallying 4 RBI including a solo home run.
In game two, it was much of the same for UWS, as they were able to claw back and tie the game up at 5-5 before allowing three runs in the bottom of the 6th.
The Yellowjackets finish their season with a 22-19 record.
