UWS softball splits series with UW-Stout, Coach Fracker earns 100th win
The University of Wisconsin-Superior (UWS) softball team split a home doubleheader with the University of Wisconsin-Stout dropping game one 5-2, then winning game two 8-6 in the 12th inning at the NBC Spartan Sports Complex. The game two victory marked 100 wins for UWS head coach Melissa Fracker.
In game one, UWS saw their 11 game-winning streak snapped after Stout scored five runs in the first four innings to lead 5-0. MyKenzie Leccia responded scoring two solo home runs, one in the fourth and one in the seventh, however UWS fell 5-2. Yellowjacket pitcher Bella Garley threw three strikeouts through seven innings.
In game two, UWS found revenge besting Stout in a 12 inning marathon 8-6. UWS scored early in the first to lead 1-0, then allowed four runs through the second and third to trail 4-1 entering the bottom of the third. The Yellowjackets then regained the lead scoring four runs, however Stout’s Stephanie Ku hit a home run in the seventh to tie the game 6-6 and force extras. Then, in the bottom of the 12th, Zoe Thomson hit a two-run homer for dramatic 8-6 victory. Offensively, Indigo Fish led with two runs, three hits, and two RBI.
UWS (14-7) will look to restart their win streak this weekend visiting North Central Friday at 3 p.m., then Saturday for a doubleheader at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
