UWS women’s hockey spoils Northland’s last hurrah with shutout win in WIAC tournament
The No. 4 University of Wisconsin-Superior (UWS) women’s hockey team opened the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) playoffs with a bang, shutting out No. 5 Northland College 9-0 at Wessman Arena Tuesday night. The match also marked the final game for the LumberJills, with the school closing after this academic year.
UWS led 3-0 after the first, 5-0 after the second, then added four more goals in the third. Kailey Swerhun recorded a hat-trick with two power play goals, Ashton Parnell scored two goals with one on the power play, and Jenna Hoops had one goal and four assists. Molly Black recorded the shutout with 12 saves, while Northland’s Maddy Bliss made an astounding 75 saves.
