March 31: A quiet end to the month

A mild Monday as we see sunshine and northwest winds become widespread, more inclement weather will move in by the middle of the week.

Conditions will remain dry in the region as clouds continue to pass this morning. No precipitation is expected as temperatures stay consistent in the upper 30s and low 40s. The only notable concern for today is the low relative humidity keeping most of the area in near-critical dry weather conditions in central Minnesota.

By the middle of this week a Colorado Low will work its way across bringing heavy snow to parts of the Northland. The active weather will begin late Tuesday night and clear by Thursday morning.

Right now, models are showing snowfall amounts will likely exceed 6 inches for northeastern MN and northwestern WI. Parts of the North Shore and in Brainerd Lakes could even exceed 12 inches. Some freezing rain and mixed precipitation is more likely to cross into northern Wisconsin by Wednesday evening, however the models still show some variation as of now. Winds will be gusting from the east Tuesday evening into Wednesday as areas along the North Shore can expect 30 mph wind to be blowing around snow and significantly reducing visibilities.

Thursday and on looks to stay comfortable with more sunshine in store.
