Lea Zmurko: Cooling down as the storm approaches
Friday will be breezy as winds from the west continue to cross. With very dry air in the area, the chances for light snow and rain remain very light with minimal accumulation. Seeing a strong temperature gradient today with highs in the teens for the Borderlands but mid-forties in northern Wisconsin.
Cloud coverage will increase for the afternoon, but temperatures drop significantly tonight as the skies clear up behind a cold front. Overnight lows may bottom out in the single digits for some.
The real snow maker will enter the vicinity on Saturday night and continue through early Monday morning as 2-6 inches will accumulate across the Northland. The higher totals will stick along the North Shore and northeastern Minnesota. There is a Winter Storm Watch already issued for most of the Arrowhead that will start Saturday night as the winter storm will leave roads messy and add to the still lingering snowbanks in some areas for Monday morning.
