March 4: A Mardi Gras System

The incoming system will bring plenty of precipitation to the region. The Northland can expect rain, freezing drizzles and ice accumulation as well as widespread snow.

The Northland is already experiencing the beginning of a busy few days of wintery precipitation as a Colorado low has made its way to the Midwest. Gusty winds and showers arrived overnight bringing rain to many and is some localized areas, light freezing rain is causing slick road conditions. The icy spots stretch across northeastern Minnesota as the system works its way out to the UP.

Mid-morning there will be a switch from rain and sleet to snow as the slushy surfaces continue to grow. Moderate to heavy snowfall is expected to linger across northern Wisconsin until Wednesday night. With additional moisture to start, snow will start out with heavy and wet flakes but as the system progresses tomorrow dry and fluffy snow will fall on top. The wild windspeeds also pose a risk of reduced visibility and whiteout conditions in many localized areas across northern Wisconsin.

When the skies finally clear out temperatures will stay in the mid-30s and stay slightly cooler before warming up again next week.
