January 30: Thawing out this Thursday

The warm up reaches its peak as highs get into the upper 30s and mid 40s with clear skies and widespread sunshine.

Some light snow moves through Cook County in the dark and early hours, but the rest of the Northland remains dry

Highs will be in the mid-30s to mid-40s which will be 15 to 20 degrees above normal for the end of January. Record highs will be within reach in Ashland, Duluth, Brainerd, and Hibbing and sunshine will be abundant.

By tonight temperatures will start to drop and remain below freezing through the weekend and the start of February. A snow system will be arriving on Saturday afternoon for the Northland and continue across the region for the weekend. 2 to 6 inches of snow is expected with greater chances for snowfall accumulation along the North Shore.

When the snow clears for the start of next week, the arctic air will settle in keeping overnight lows below zero and daytime highs in the low teens. Flurries will continue to cross the area as light snow remain possible.
