UPDATE: Missing kayaker found safe in St. Croix Falls
Update: The Washburn County Sheriff’s Office reports that Gunnur Hess is safe and has been located by the Wisconsin DNR Wardens.
Original Story: Authorities are search for a 19-year-old Sarona, Wisconsin man who was last heard from on Friday, June 14. According to a post on the Washburn County Sheriff’s Facebook page made at 8:50 am on Monday, Gunnur Hess was kayaking on the Namekagon River. Authorities say Hess was supposed to have put in at the County K Namekagon River access.
The Washburn County Sheriff says Gunnur had contacted his family and told them his plan of kayaking the river and that he would contact them when he was ready to be picked up. Gunnar’s family has not heard from him.
Officials located Gunnur’s truck at the County K landing. He uses a grey pelican kayak with a white bottom.
Both the Washburn and Burnett County authorities have been traveling the river with assistance from local fire departments. According to the post, they have found no signs of Gunnur.
