Brandon Weatherz: Pleasant weekend to follow a gray and cool Friday

The dry and sunny stretch we’ve enjoyed all week has come to an end. Cloudy skies have returned this morning along with an area of showers extending from northwest Minnesota southeastward into northwest Wisconsin. Locally heavy rainfall will be possible, mostly south of the Twin Ports. This band will gradually weaken through the morning and into the afternoon, grazing the Arrowhead and reaching across northwest Wisconsin. Additional showers may develop in the evening across the region and gradually move east overnight into early Saturday morning. All said and done, around .1″ is expected for the Twin Ports and along the South Shore with little to no accumulation looking north. Amounts increase moving south of a line extending from near Grand Rapids to Hayward.
The clouds and rain chances will keep temps on the cooler side today with highs mostly in the 60s. Temps rise closer to average on Saturday with highs ranging from near 70 east to near 80 west. An east wind continues to keep temps lower near Lake Superior. Sunday features widespread 70s under a mix of clouds and sun. A few showers will be possible near and north of the Iron Range. A slightly unsettled weather pattern and afternoon instability will bring the potential for isolated showers rather consistently through the start of next week, but the next widespread chance of rain doesn’t arrive until Wednesday into Thursday.
