Brandon Weatherz: Snow slow to leave

Travel remains slick this morning, and additionally slick conditions are expected through tomorrow. Continue to allow for extra time on the roads to take it slow. The snowy conditions that took over yesterday will be slow to leave us. An unsettled weather pattern and cold air over Lake Superior will be responsible for snow showers in the region through Thursday. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Lake Co. and Cook Co. until 6 am Wednesday. These areas take the focus for additional moderate to heavy lake effect snow.
Lake effect potential will move southward along the North Shore toward the Head of the Lake through today and tonight as a winds gradually shift from southeast to northeast. Additional snow from 6 am today to 6 am Wednesday along the high terrain of the North Shore will be generally 3-6” with higher amounts locally. Duluth could see as much as an additional 6” on the hill, while additional amounts in Superior stay closer to 1”. The rest of the Northland will also receive light additional totals between a trace and 2”.
Wednesday will feature a wind shift to northwest, giving the North Shore a break. More light snow is possible Wednesday and Thursday, but accumulations should be lighter and less widespread. Cold and blustery conditions arrive Friday and continue through the weekend.

Stubborn snow showers will continue to bring slick travel today into tomorrow. The North Shore keeps the focus for greatest accumulations.
