New Year’s Day will begin with patchy freezing fog in the morning. Once that clears, the rest of the day will be cloudy but calm. Afternoon highs will be mostly in the low thirties.

We stay calm until Monday night. A strong storm will bring a wintry mix late Monday night, becoming snow by morning. Heavy snow is likely throughout the day Tuesday, mostly staying on the Wisconsin side of the Northland. Over six inches of snow is possible for portions of Douglas, Bayfield, and Ashland Counties. We could also see light ice accumulation as the storm first arrives.

South St. Louis, Carlton, and Pine Counties are under a Winter Storm Watch from 12 am Tuesday until 12 am Wednesday. Douglas, Bayfield, Ashland, Burnett, Washburn, and Sawyer Counties are also under a Winter Storm Watch during that time.
