Tech Bytes: Apple AirPods approved to be used as hearing aids

The FDA has approved the use of Apple's Airpod Pros to be used as hearing aids. Various social media companies launch the Thrive program, which prevents graphic content like self-harm being spread through their platforms. Flappy Bird returns after vanishing from app stores 10 years ago.

Apple’s new hearing aid feature gets FDA approval. The new “AirPods Pro” will get an update, allowing them to function as over-the-counter hearing aids. The earbuds will also get a hearing protection mode, safeguarding ears in loud environments like concerts. The AirPods cost $249—hundreds of dollars less than traditional hearing aids.

Meta, Snap, and TikTok have launched the Thrive program. Thrive is designed to stop the spread of graphic content related to self-harm by sharing alerts between platforms. The program was developed with the Mental Health Coalition.

Flappy Bird is making a comeback, ten years after it vanished. Dedicated fans have acquired the rights to the viral game after it was pulled from app stores in 2014. The game will return on desktop and mobile web this fall, with iOS and Android releases in 2025.
