Warm weather continues to efficiently melt the considerable snow pack, leading to a Flood Advisory that remains in effect until 12:30 pm Thursday. Expect minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. River and stream levels are elevated and will continue rising.
Our Tuesday begins mild with mid-30s in the cool pockets and low 50s in the warm areas. Highs in the Northland will range from near 60 north to near 70 south today with mid-60s possible in the Twin Ports. A southwest wind will keep Lake Superior’s influence on temps limited to areas immediately by the lake and along the North Shore of Cook County both today and tomorrow.
It will even be warm enough for “cooler by the lake conditions” overnight as low range from mid-30s to mid-50s tonight. Wednesday will then shape up to be the most extreme for snowmelt with temps approaching daily record highs for some under sunny skies. East central Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin will see widespread 70s. Mid-60s extend from the Twin Ports across the Iron Range.
Above average temperatures will persist in the region Thursday and Friday, but a breezy east wind will limit how much we feel that warmth in the Twin Ports and along the shorelines of Lake Superior. Thursday’s rain chances have nudged further north, hugging the international border. Friday’s rain stays west across north central Minnesota. The widespread wet period would be Friday night through the weekend when accumulating rain could add to flooding concerns. Snow may still enter the mix Saturday night and Sunday.
