Snowmelt and flooding continues to be an issue in the Northland. A number of flood warnings are in effect, particularly near rising rivers. A wet weekend will bring additional flooding concerns.
This morning, a front remains positioned just south of Lake Superior. That front will move north today with areas away from Lake Superior soaring into 60s and 70s. Meanwhile, a breezy east wind still holds temps closer to 50 for shoreline communities.
Showers and isolated thunderstorms arrive from the west across northern Minnesota through the afternoon, reaching the Twin Ports this evening. Widespread showers and rumbles of thunder will be with us tonight and tomorrow, adding water where we don’t need it. Highs will be mostly in 40s on Saturday, but we find warmer conditions looking east in northwest Wisconsin with 70 possible once more in Butternut.
Snow enters the mix Saturday night, Sunday and Sunday night as precipitation gradually moves east. Sunday will be windy and wintry with highs in mid-30s to low 40s. By Monday, we look to the tip of the Arrowhead and the South Shore for lingering snow chances. The potential for snow accumulation is still evolving, but light accumulation is possible across the Northland. As of this morning, we expect the Twin Ports to stay under an inch. We look across the Arrowhead and northwest Wisconsin for the chance of 1-3”, and the South Shore snowbelt for 3-6”.
