Brandon Weatherz: Staying chilly this weekend

The bulk of snow from this system has already fallen, but there will be some lingering and additional snow that keeps travel slick today. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 7 pm across northeast Minnesota. We look north of the Iron Range toward the international border for additional accumulation of 3-4” after 7 am. Much of the rest of the area in the Advisory will see 1-3” of additional snow. The Twin Ports and North Shore is expected stay near or under an inch.
The responsible weather system will loiter nearby and provide scattered snow showers through tonight and tomorrow with light accumulation possible. We look to the South Shore for 1-3” due to lake enhancement through Saturday. An unsettled weather pattern will keep the chance for isolated snow and wintry mix showers in the Northland Sunday through Tuesday, but these will be localized and will not bring much in the form of accumulation.
Temperatures will continue to be below average through the weekend. Highs today stay in mid-30s to near 40, then lows are back in low to upper 20s tonight. Saturday will be another day with most areas below 40, then Saturday night will feature lows in 20s to low teens looking north due to decreasing clouds. Sunday will have highs in upper 30s to low 40s under a mix of clouds and sun. We’ll gradually trend closer to average through next week. A wet stretch at the end of next week is possible, bringing more flooding concerns.
