Wet and gloomy weather is sticking around through the weekend, leading to more flooding potential. A Flood Watch is in effect across much of northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin until 7 pm Sunday. The main change we’ll feel today is cooler air, in part because of a breezy east wind. Highs range from near 40 by Lake Superior to low 50s in north central Minnesota. Today’s rain is most widespread from the Twin Ports and south across northwest Wisconsin, with another area of showers returning across northern Minnesota from the west this afternoon and evening.
Precipitation thins out tonight and tomorrow with the tip of the Arrowhead and the South Shore taking the focus for steadier mixed precipitation. A rain and snow combo becomes more widespread from east to west Saturday night into Sunday morning reaching the Twin Ports and the Iron Range. Rain, wintry mix, and snow continues in these areas through Sunday into Monday morning.
Warm temps will cause a lot of the snow to melt on impact. Accumulation of several inches are possible looking to far northern parts of the Arrowhead and looking eastward along Lake Superior’s South Shore. Lake effect snowbelt communities could pick up localized amounts as high as a foot by Monday morning. This system will keep cool air and a rain/snow combo in the Northland into Monday, then we trend back to warmer and more typical May weather by the middle of the week.
