Brandon Weatherz: Lake breeze lingers, heat builds from the south

Our Tuesday features a warm front draped over southern parts of the Northland, responsible for a dramatic temperature difference depending on which side of the front you’re on and an early round of showers and thunderstorms which may produce heavy rain and hail. The potentially severe storms taper off to the east across northern Wisconsin through the morning. Sporadic showers and weaker storms may linger in the Arrowhead this afternoon, gradually moving northward toward the Canadian border through the day.
It will otherwise be a partly sunny day with a breezy east wind. Highs stay in the 60s along the shorelines and across the Arrowhead. Meanwhile, we warm quickly looking south with upper 80s from Brainerd to Siren. A Heat Advisory is in effect for Pine Co. and Burnett Co. where heat indices are expected to surpass 95° and reach as high as 105°. The Heat Advisory is in effect on Wednesday for Pine, Burnett, Washburn, Sawyer, and Price Co. with heat indices up to 102°. A Beach Hazards Statement is also in effect for the Head of Lake Superior where breezy east winds once again present a high risk for rip currents.
Lows tonight stay in mid-50s to upper 60s. Highs tomorrow will range from near 90 to mid-70s with 60s once again found along the shorelines of Lake Superior. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible Wednesday night into early Thursday morning, then highs will be mostly in the 80s on Thursday behind a cold front. A cooling trend continues through Saturday with a comfortable and dry weekend expected. Friday features scattered showers and thunderstorms.
