Brandon Weatherz: Big change in temps on the way

Our weather will be making some big swings in the next 24 to 48 hours. Today features above normal temps with highs in the 70s and potential for strong thunderstorms. By Thursday, high temperatures will be in the 40s and snow will be mixing in with rain showers.
The warm front sweeping the Northland today may produce a few showers moving from southwest to northeast across northern Minnesota. The day will be rather dry overall with a mix of clouds and sun. Around 7 p.m. is when we’ll direct our attention near the I-35 corridor for thunderstorms that may develop ahead of an approaching cold front. East central Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin will keep the focus for thunderstorms into the overnight with some storms capable of hail up to 1” in diameter.
Tonight’s lows will range from low to upper 40s. Highs Wednesday will then stay in the 50s with a breezy west wind. Scattered showers arrive from the northwest in the afternoon and evening. An unsettled weather pattern will keep light showers possible Wednesday night into Friday. Through this period, snow will mix in, especially in northern areas.
