Brandon Weatherz: Sun today, snow tonight and tomorrow

The morning commute features much quieter weather today, but be mindful of slick conditions remaining from yesterday. Many Northland roads are still reporting snow and ice. Our Tuesday begins with temps ranging from mid-teens to mid-20s, then we top off in upper 20s to upper 30s under mostly sunny skies. A fast moving weather system will bring another round of accumulating snow to the region tonight into tomorrow.
There will be a band of 2-5” of accumulation, leading to a Winter Weather Advisory extending from central Minnesota across northwest Wisconsin. The Advisory begins at 9 pm this evening for Crow Wing, South Aitkin, and Pine Co. and goes until noon tomorrow. Northwest Wisconsin’s Advisory starts at midnight and lasts until 6 pm Wednesday. This band of heavier snow may shift either north or south, and the Advisory may adjust accordingly. Accumulation drops off going north, with 1-3” reaching past the Twin Ports across Grand Rapids and the Iron Range to Two Harbors. Amounts north will see less than an inch, with the Borderland possibly being missed altogether.
Snow arrives from the west and southwest overnight and tapers off to the east tomorrow afternoon and evening. We’ll settle into a quiet stretch Thursday through the weekend, with a few snow showers possible late Friday into Saturday. Temps will be seasonably cool to start March, then a stretch of highs near and above freezing starts Friday and continues into the start of next week.
