Travel will be impacted by a combination of snow and gusty winds today. Widespread snow has moved into east central Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin with quick accumulation and deteriorating travel this morning. Snow will gradually taper off from the west through the late afternoon and evening. Northeast winds sustained near 15 mph gusting near 30 mph will allow for blowing snow and continue to produce lake effect snow showers. A wind shift out of the north directs lingering lake effect along the South Shore overnight as it gradually fizzles out.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 6 pm for South St. Louis, Carlton, Douglas, Burnett, Washburn, Sawyer, and Price counties. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect until midnight for Bayfield, Ashland, and Iron counties. Additional accumulation after 9:30 this morning will be 1-3″ in the areas in the Advisory and 3-6″ in the areas in the warning, with locally higher amounts possible.
