Light snow accumulation has brought slippery stretches to many roads this morning. Expect additional snow to keep travel slick through the day, particularly for the North Shore where a Winter Storm Advisory is in effect until 4 pm. Localized areas here see an additional 2-3”. Scattered snow will gradually pull east through the day and overnight, leading to less than an inch of snow still to come for western areas. An additional 1-2” reaches from Ely to the Head of Lake Superior and east of there. Snow lingers for the South Shore into Thursday morning, leading to localized areas receiving 2-3”.
Thursday evening brings the arrival of another round of light accumulation from the west. Snow sweeps the region overnight and exits east Friday morning, with lake effect lingering once more along the South Shore. This will be another general 1-3” across the Northland.
Temperatures are mild for one last time this morning. Most areas start off in low to mid-20s with the exception of northwest communities. International Falls stays with a high of 17 today, then 20s extend south across the rest of the region. Tonight will have lows ranging from minus single digits from Brainerd to the Iron Range and north to teens in Wisconsin where clouds linger. Thursday features brief sunshine and cooler temps with highs in the teens. Temperatures get a slight boost Friday morning with the passing snow, then the frigid stretch begins. Highs will be near zero and lows below zero starting Saturday and continuing well into next week.
