The coldest day in the forecast is the one that lies ahead. Temps begin ranging from minus single digits looking east to minus 20s along and north of the Iron Range. A Wind Chill Advisory is in effect through the morning with wind chills as low as -40. Limit time outside, limit exposed skin, and keep pets in. Afternoon highs will be near and below zero across the Northland under sunny skies. Temps return to minus teens tonight with wind chills approaching -35.
After a frigid start to the week, temps gradually trend warmer through Wednesday when highs return to teens. This is followed by another blast of unseasonably cold air that will send temperatures back to teens and 20s below zero come Friday morning. This cold snap will be shorter lived, with seasonable weather returning in time for the weekend.
There continues to be little in the terms of widespread snow in the forecast. The Bayfield Peninsula may see light lake effect snow today. This should taper off tonight as winds shift out of the southwest. A few flurries are possible Tuesday evening and overnight, then again Wednesday night into Thursday. A blustery northwest will keep lake effect possible for the South Shore on Thursday. A slight chance for snow arrives on Saturday.
