Brandon Weatherz: Heat and isolated storms linger

Our weather pattern is stalled out, meaning we’ll continue to see more of the same into the weekend. It’s another hot and sticky day with inland areas reaching mid to upper 80s. An east wind will keep areas immediately near the shorelines of Lake Superior much cooler in the 50s. Even the Duluth International Airport on the hill will be slightly cooler today with upper 70s instead of yesterday’s mid-80s due to the east wind. Lake influence looks to be generally the same tomorrow and Saturday as well. By Sunday, a southeast wind gives Duluth another shot at 80s while upper 80s continue inland. A stronger east wind arrives Monday and lingers Tuesday.
Precipitation will also continue to play out similarly to what we saw yesterday. An early round of showers and thunderstorms persisting from last night will move northeast across the Arrowhead this morning and gradually taper off. Isolated showers and thunderstorms will once again pop up in northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin this afternoon and evening, lingering into the overnight hours. No storms are expected to be severe, but brief downpours and small hail are possible. The hit-or-miss nature will still mean rain for some and not all without widespread accumulation. This repeats tomorrow and Saturday as well. Sunday should trend drier from the east, then a cold front brings a round of showers Sunday night into Monday morning from northeast to southwest.
